Irfan Khan is a Pakistani Pashtun pop singer who performs in both Pashto and Urdu. He gained significant recognition through his Pashto single "Pekhawar Khu Pekhawar De," which he wrote as an ode to his hometown.

Early life and education

Irfan Khan was born on May 5, 1982, in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. His father held a position as a manager for a Pakistani bank. Although he began his schooling at the age of 6 in Swat, he later continued his studies in Azad Kashmir.

He completed his Matriculation examination from Peshawar Model School. Following this, he finished his intermediate examinations at Edwardes College, Peshawar. Khan earned a BA Degree in Communication Design from the University of Peshawar and also obtained a degree in hospitality and hotel management.

Career

Khan participated in Naat competitions during his school years. He discovered a passion for music while in college, which led him to explore Pashto music. This period marked the start of a new era within Pashtun media.

His first Pashto single, "Pekhawar Khu Pekhawar de," was broadcast by Khyber TV. The song became an instant hit and established his presence in the growing Pashto music scene. He subsequently recorded his first Pashto album titled "Brekhna." This album received positive reception from the Pashtun community in Pakhtunkhwa and from listeners overseas. His track "Zema De Stergo Na Panaa Gulaba" gained popularity abroad because it describes how expatriates long for their homeland.

The singer performs in various television shows and live settings. He has performed solo concerts in Boston and Kuala Lumpur. Khan also launched his first Urdu album, "Chounay Day," with songs composed and recorded in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. He recorded a video for the title song of this album in Atlanta.

In 2010, he released the single "Jaanan" alongside Hadiqa Kiyani. This track served as the title song for his album of the same name. The song became a superhit across Pakistan. He also recorded a video for the song "Janaan" with Hadiqa Kiani.

Personal life

Irfan Khan was born in Mardan to a father who worked as a bank manager. He maintains a connection to his roots through his songwriting.

Awards and recognition

The song "Jaanan" reached the "What they are..." section of the Los Angeles Times. This international recognition followed the track's success in 2010. His work is also mentioned in the French book des reves plein le monde.
