Sahir Ali Bagga is a Pakistani singer, music director, and composer based in Lahore. He composes music for Lollywood films and various independent singers.
Early life and education
Sahir Ali Bagga was born on 10 April 1980 in Lahore, Pakistan. He grew up in a musically inclined family where his father, Amjad Hussain, worked as a renowned music composer and drummer during the 1970s. This environment provided a strong foundation for his future endeavors.
He received his initial musical training from members of the family of Ustad Tafu, who was a prominent figure in Pakistani classical music. Even during his early school years, Bagga demonstrated a passion for music by composing melodies that were inspired by newspaper headlines. This early creativity helped shape his unique style.
Career
Bagga began his professional journey in the music industry as a drummer. He later joined the band Jupiters, where he met the music video singer Jawad Ahmad. After composing music for an album by Ahmad, Bagga established his career path. The Pakistan Army eventually boosted his profile by adopting him as an official singer of the National Armed forces after Noor Jehan.
He earned significant recognition for his musical arrangements on the Pakistan Television show Virsa: Heritage Revived during its 2009–2010 season. On this program, which was hosted by Yousuf Salahuddin, he composed music for various performers including Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. He also worked with Azra Jehan and Sanam Marvi.
His work extends into the film industry through several notable soundtracks. He composed music for the Pakistani movie Zinda Bhaag in 2013. Additionally, he worked on the soundtracks for Hijrat in 2016 and Tamanna in 2014, where he contributed the songs "Koi Dil Mein" and "Chell Oi."
Bagga is also a prolific creator of television original soundtracks (OSTs). He sang the OST for O Rangreza on Hum TV, Iltija on Ary Digital TV, Khudgharz on ARY Digital, and Intezaar on A plus TV. His OST for O Rangreza received much recognition and earned a nomination for the Lux Style Awards in 2018. He also sang the OST of Bharosa Pyar Tera and wrote the lyrics for the hit drama Khaani.
In recent years, his presence on Coke Studio (Pakistan) has increased his popularity. During season 10, he performed a duet song with Aima Baig. In May 2021, he appeared in an upbeat Punjabi song titled "Badnamiyan" alongside Alizeh Shah. His famous soundtracks include "Yeh mumkin tou nahin," "Malang," "Baazi," "Rab Waaris," "Roye Roye," and "Dhola."
Personal life
Bagga expresses a deep connection to his heritage through his creative choices. He states that he wants to make music that relates to his land, culture, and home. He aims to showcase local raags, beats, and lyrics to his fans.
Awards and recognition
In 2020, the government of Pakistan awarded him the Pride of Performance Award. This honor recognized his music composition for "Bara Dushman Bana Phirta Hai." This march song was originally released in December 2015 by the Inter-Services Public Relations to mark the first anniversary of the 2014 Peshawar school massacre.
