Sohai Ali Abro is a Pakistani actress, dancer and model. She performs in various television serials and films across the country.

Early life and education

Abro was born in Larkana, Sindh, to a Sindhi family. She is the youngest of three siblings, having one brother and one sister. Her parents worked professionally as medical officers. Both parents died of natural causes when she was 9 years old.

She spent her childhood living in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Islamabad. After moving to Karachi, she completed her studies. Her interest in theater eventually helped her gain popularity with prominent names in the showbiz industry.

Career

Abro made her acting debut in 2011 through the romance-drama Man Jali. She portrayed a supporting character named Gurya. In 2012, she achieved her first lead role as Darakshande Badar in the fantasy-drama Saat Pardon Mein. This character was a diehard fan of the actor Ahsan Murad.

She also performed a dance for the ARY Digital reality show Naach. This performance received a lukewarm response due to the song choice and direction. Abro appeared in the telefilm Rangraiz Meray and the 2013 serial Tanhai. In that production, she played Jiya, a lower middle-class woman married to a widower.

Her work in Yasir Nawaz's Anjuman earned her a nomination for a Tarang Housefull Award. She entered the film industry in 2015 with the romantic-comedy Wrong No. She played Laila, a girl next door. Critic Rafay Mahmood of The Express Tribune criticized her character development and described her acting as overacting.

Later in 2015, she appeared in the adventure-comedy Jawani Phir Nahi Ani. She played Zoya, who was the wealthy fiancée of the protagonist. Salima Feerasta from DAWN Images called her performance hilarious. She also noted that Abro provided the one memorable character in that film.

In 2017, she worked with Azfar Rehman on two television projects. These included the romantic-drama Kaisi Yeh Paheli and Adhi Gawahi. In Adhi Gawahi, she played Salwa Mansoor, a university student fighting a forced marriage. This role showcased a more intense character than her previous collaborations.

Abro returned to the cinema in 2018 with the biographical drama Motorcycle Girl. The film is based on the life of Zenith Irfan. Sahar Wattoo of the Daily Times noted that she worked really hard. Rahul Aijaz from The Express Tribune stated that she carries the entire film on her shoulders.

She appeared in the social drama Surkh Chandni in 2019 as an acid attack survivor named Aida. In 2020, she played Joya in the romantic-comedy Prem Gali. After a hiatus, she returned to television in 2024 with the action-romance Gentleman. She played Mifra, the daughter of a commissioner, and later appeared in the thriller Faraar.

Personal life

Abro married cricketer Shehzar Mohammad in March 2021. The couple welcomed a daughter in November 2022.

Awards and recognition

Her performance in Motorcycle Girl earned her a Lux Style Award for Best Film Actress - Critic's Choice. She was also nominated for a Tarang Housefull Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Anjuman.
