Mawra Hocane is a Pakistani actress who primarily works in Urdu television. She rose to prominence through various drama serials and film appearances across Pakistan and India.
Early life and education
Mawra Hussain was born on 28 September 1992 in Karachi, Sindh. Her elder sister is the actress Urwa Hocane, while actor Farhan Saeed is her brother-in-law. During 7th grade, she began spelling her family name as "Hocane" to create a unique form. She later returned to school to complete her studies. Hocane holds a degree in law from the University of London.
Career
Before entering the television industry, she performed as a theatre artist. She also worked as a VJ at ARY Musik. Her acting debut occurred in 2011 with the drama Khichari Salsa. She subsequently appeared in Nikhar Gaye Gulab Sare and Aahista Aahista. In 2014, she played Bushra in Mein Bushra, a role she considers one of her favorites.
Hocane expanded her reach into Indian cinema with the 2016 romantic tragedy Sanam Teri Kasam. She portrayed Saru, a South Indian librarian working opposite Harshvardhan Rane. News18 described her as one of the most incredible performers. Following this, she made her Pakistani film debut in the 2018 comedy drama Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2. This production became the second-highest-grossing Pakistani film worldwide.
Between 2018 and 2019, she appeared in the period drama Aangan, which was based on a novel by Khadija Mastoor. She portrayed a resilient Hindustani character who endures bitter experiences regarding love. Her subsequent roles included the bubbly Sunehri in Daasi and the ambitious Anaya Aziz in Sabaat. The latter role earned her dual nominations for Best TV Actress at the 20th Lux Style Awards.
In 2021, she played a victim of domestic abuse in Qissa Meherbano Ka. She then took on the role of Zimal Riyasat in the 2023 romance-drama Neem. Her recent work includes the 2024 comedy Let's Try Mohabbat and the drama Jafaa. In 2025, she appeared in Agar Tum Sath Ho and the family-drama Jama Taqseem.
Beyond acting, she has worked as a model for various designers. She was the show stopper for an HSY creation during the 2018 Hum Bridal Couture Week. Hocane also serves as an ambassador for brands including Lay's and Glow & Lovely. In June 2019, she launched a clothing line named UXM with her sister. She started her YouTube channel, M Live, in 2022.
Personal life
She met actor Ameer Gilani on the sets of Sabaat in 2020. The couple married on 5 February 2025. They held a traditional Muslim wedding ceremony in Lahore.
Awards and recognition
Hocane won the Hum Award for Best Actress for her performance in Neem. This achievement took place at the 9th Hum Awards. In 2016, she ranked 6th in the "HIP Top 10" list due to her vocal personality.
