Amar Khan is a Pakistani television actress, director and writer. She performs in various television dramas and has also worked as a filmmaker.
Early life and education
Khan was born in Lahore, Punjab. She is the daughter of actress Fareeha Jabeen. While she pursued her studies, she graduated as a filmmaker from Beaconhouse National University in Lahore. During her time at the university, Khan ventured into making short films.
Career
Khan made her acting debut in the 2017 short film Chashm-e-Num. She played the role of a blind girl in this project—which she also wrote—and starred opposite Ahsan Khan. In 2018, she appeared in the supernatural horror series Belapur Ki Dayan. She plays Neelofur, a witch spirit who returns from the afterlife to seek revenge on those who caused her death. This serial ran for 20 episodes and featured actors such as Adnan Siddiqui, Sarah Khan and Irfan Khoosat.
She later appeared in the TV One production Ghughi. In this series, she plays a Hindu girl who falls in love with a Muslim boy played by Adnan Siddiqui. Maria Shirazi of The News International reported that Khan proved her versatility in a short span of time. During 2018, she also made an episodic appearance in the anthology drama Ustani Jee. She subsequently appeared as Ayeza in Dil-e-Bereham opposite Wahaj Ali.
Khan has taken on diverse roles throughout her television career. She played Zeena, a woman with an inferiority complex, in the miniseries Choti Choti Batain. She also acted as an antagonist in Dil-e-Gumshuda. A reviewer from Daily Times noted that she imbues the role of Alizey with a certain earnestness. In 2023, Khan received critical acclaim for her performance in the Kashif Nisar directorial Breaking News. Other acclaimed roles include Irha in Daraar, Samra in Qayamat and Abeer in Baddua. Eastern Eye reported that she delivers strong performances in these dramas.
As a writer, Khan has produced several projects that received critical acclaim. Her written works include Akkad Bakkad, Dard-e-Dil, Azaad Masi, Chashm-e-Num and Black Wednesday. She made her film debut with the feature film Dum Mastam, which was directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin. Khan wrote this project herself and paired opposite Imran Ashraf in the film released in May 2022.
Her writing career also extends to Ramadan plays for Geo Tv. Her first written project for the network is Heer Da Hero. This play received high ratings and critical acclaim for its wit and humour.
