Ushna Shah

Ushna Shah is a Pakistani-Canadian film and television actress. She is recognized for her various roles across several high-profile drama serials and films.

Early life and education

Shah was born in Karachi, Sindh, on 12 February 1990. Her father, Muhammad Shah, works as a businessman while her mother, Ismat Tahira, is a veteran actress and radio artist. She has one elder brother named Shah Sharabeel, who is a theater director. Irsa Ghazal is her elder half-sister from her mother's first marriage. Because the family relocated to Toronto during her childhood, she was raised in Canada.

Shah moved back to Pakistan in 2012 to pursue acting. She graduated from York University with a major in English Literature and Professional Writing.

Career

Shah made her professional debut in the 2013 romance Mere Khwabon Ka Diya. She played a supporting role in this production and won a Pakistan Media Award for her performance. After this initial success, she took on various character roles. In 2014, she starred as a struggling wife in the blockbuster thriller Bashar Momin. She later portrayed the title character in the 2015 drama serial Duaa.

Her filmography includes several notable television projects. She appeared in the 2017 spiritual drama Alif Allah Aur Insaan as a beggar turned courtesan. In 2018, she featured as the female lead in the psychological thriller Balaa. She earned praise for her work in the 2019 thriller Cheekh and the 2022 drama Parizaad. Her roles also include playing a naive wife in the romance Habs.

Shah has participated in film projects including a guest appearance in Punjab Nahi Jaungi in 2017. She was cast as Eesha in Jawad Bashir's Teri Meri Love Story, although the film never received an official release. She also starred in Oye Kuch Kar Guzar, which is the first online Pakistani comedy film by D-juice Pakistan.

Beyond acting, she works as a brand ambassador for the fashion label Nickie Nina. She has participated in campaigns for lawn brands such as Jahanara. In June 2017, she used Facebook to criticize talk shows that use Ramadan to increase television rating points.

Personal life

Shah married professional golfer Hamza Amin on 26 February 2023 in Karachi. This marriage occurred two months after she announced her engagement. Hamza Amin is the son of golfer Taimur Hassan Amin.

Awards and recognition

Shah has received multiple accolades throughout her career. She won the Best Emerging Talent Female award at the 4th Pakistan Media Awards for Mere Khwabon Ka Diya. Her television work earned her a Hum Award for Best Soap Actress at the 3rd Hum Awards for Hum Tehray Gunahgar. She also won the Hum Award for Best Negative Character at the 6th Hum Awards for Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

She received a nomination for the Lux Style Awards for Best Television Actress for her role in Balaa.
