Liaquat Ali, widely recognized by his stage name Liaquat Soldier, is a renowned Pakistani comedy actor, writer and director. He achieved significant fame through his extensive work in both stage plays and television productions. His career spanned several decades of performing arts in Pakistan.

Early life and education

Liaquat Ali was born in 1952 in Karachi. He grew up within a modest, low-income family of Marwari background. This reserved upbringing shaped his early years in the city. His professional identity eventually took on a unique form through his peers.

The artist's unusual last name, Soldier, was not an inherited title. Instead, it was given to him by his friend Nazar Hussain, who was also a stage artist. This moniker became synonymous with his comedic persona throughout his life.

Career

Soldier began his professional acting career in 1973. He eventually featured in more than 250 plays over the course of his tenure in the industry. His performances allowed him to co-star with many famous theatre personalities. These collaborators included Moin Akhtar, Furqan Haider and Umer Sharif. He also shared the stage with Hanif Raja and Shahzad Raza.

His versatility extended from the live stage to various television networks. He worked for several major channels including PTV, Geo TV and SAMAA TV. His filmography also includes appearances on Dhoom TV, Metro, Hum TV and ARY Digital. These roles solidified his status as a household name in Pakistani comedy.

Soldier's talent reached audiences beyond the borders of Pakistan. He performed overseas in the United States, Dubai and South Africa. This international exposure highlighted his appeal as a performer. His work bridged the gap between local theatre and global audiences.

On 30 March 2011, the actor passed away following a heart attack. At the time of his passing, he was reportedly participating in a live TV show. This broadcast occurred during a special transmission of the 2011 Cricket World Cup semi-final between India and Pakistan. He died before he could be transported to the hospital. The news of his death was even announced on Cricinfo during the start of Pakistan's innings.

Personal life

Liaquat Soldier leaves behind a family consisting of his wife, one daughter and three sons. His passing was described by a friend as the loss of a humble and good person. He is remembered for his contributions to comedy dramas.

Following his death, his body was taken to SITE Town. He is buried in the old Mewa Shah graveyard. This location serves as his final resting place.
