Ashir Azeem

Ashir Azeem Gill is a Pakistani-Canadian actor, writer, and director who previously served as a civil services officer. He gained widespread fame through the 1994 television series Dhuwan. Currently, he hosts a web-series on YouTube that focuses on political reform.

Early life and education

Ashir Azeem was born in Quetta in 1962. He completed his early schooling in his birthplace before pursuing higher education. From 1981 to 1984, he attended the Pakistan Air Force College of Aeronautical Engineering. He later moved to Karachi to study at the Institute of Business Administration. During the period between 1984 and 1986, he earned a BBA degree.

Career

In 1988, Azeem joined the Central Superior Services of Pakistan through the 16th Common. He served as a civil servant within the Federal Board of Revenue. While working in Pakistan Customs, he collaborated with the CBR and other departments to improve the national economy. He developed a software system that cleared containers in 4 hours—a significant improvement from the previous 12-day process. This project aimed to increase transparency and matched systems used in Australia or the United States.

Corrupt individuals made false allegations against him, which resulted in his suspension from office. Azeem did not hold press conferences or use propaganda to defend himself. He fought for his rights in court for 3 years. The court eventually acquitted him and ordered his reinstatement, but he chose to resign instead.

Azeem entered the media industry after a colleague advised him to turn a story about the Pakistan Armed Forces into a television serial. This project became the series Dhuwan, which aired on the Pakistan Television Corporation in 1994. He played the lead actor in this popular production. In 2015, he announced his debut film titled Maalik, which he had written in 1993. He directed, wrote, and co-produced the film that was released on 8 April 2016. He also appeared as an actor in the film Yalghaar, which was directed by Hassan Rana.

He moved to Canada in 2016. According to his Twitter account, he drives a 22-wheeler truck in Canada to earn his main income. He uses his YouTube channel to share video messages regarding governance and societal issues. These videos provide tips for the development of Pakistan and offer hopeful messages to the youth.

Personal life

Ashir Azeem is a Roman Catholic Christian. He holds dual citizenship as both a Pakistani and a Canadian citizen. He is married to Bushra Ashir Azeem and has two children.
