Vaneeza Ahmad

Vaneeza Ahmad is a Pakistani model, actress, and occasional singer. She holds the distinction of being the first Pakistani model to represent international brands such as Calvin Klein and Donna Karan.

Early life and education

Ahmad was born on 24 June 1971 in Murree. She returned to Pakistan at the age of 18 to pursue higher education. During this time, she attended Kinnaird College, which is a liberal arts university located in Lahore. She eventually graduated from the institution with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

While she was studying at the university, Ahmad began modeling on a casual basis. Although she did not initially view modeling as a primary career path, she received numerous offers from prominent fashion designers. Some of these individuals included Nilofer Shahid, who is a notable figure within the Pakistani fashion industry.

Ahmad reportedly told news media that career options for young women were limited during her youth. At that time, most college students focused on medicine, engineering or teaching. Modeling was not considered a standard professional option for girls.

Career

When Nilofer Shahid approached her, Ahmad felt unsure about her professional direction. She eventually settled on fashion modeling as her chosen path. Corporate heads in the entertainment industry have praised her business acumen during her professional dealings.

As a model, she achieved significant success as the face of various brands across Pakistan. Her international reach expanded when she modeled for Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. These achievements established her as a pioneer for Pakistani models on the global stage.

Ahmad also transitioned into the role of a fashion designer through her brand, Vlawn. This collection featured nine different lawn prints that were created by designers including Nomi Ansari, Umar Sayeed and Hassan Sheheryar Yasin. In March 2006, the collection sold out during a series of exhibitions. She continued to manage the VLawn brand of women's lawn suits in 2011.

Her acting career began with her debut in Jamal Shah's controversial saga, Kal. She later appeared in several television series such as Tum Hi Tau Ho, Janey Anjaney and Tum Say Mil Ker. Her credits also include Armaan, Khayal and the series Talaash. In 1998, she portrayed Dina Wadia—the daughter of Muhammad Ali Jinnah—in the biographical film Jinnah, directed by Jamil Dehlavi.

Personal life

Ahmad married Ali Afzal Malik, a businessman based in Islamabad, in July 2010. The couple has two daughters. She continues to run her own business alongside her creative pursuits.

Her family includes several prominent figures in the Pakistani media industry. The actress Bindiya and the newscaster Meena Pervaiz are both aunts to Ahmad.

Awards and recognition

On 16 April 2008, Ahmad received a unique honor when she was selected as an Olympic torch bearer. This occurred when the torch arrived in Islamabad. She was one of only 66 celebrities chosen to participate in the relay.
