Umar Amin is a Pakistani international cricketer who represents his country in various formats. He began his professional journey as a young batsman from Rawalpindi and eventually earned a place on the national squad. Currently, he works within the coaching sector in the United Kingdom.

Early life and education

Umar Amin was born on 16 October 1989 in Rawalpindi, Punjab. He started playing youth league cricket in 2001 while he was in seventh grade. His skills improved significantly over several years of competition. After reaching the U19 stage, he earned selection for the Pakistan U19 side. This success led to a call up for the Pakistan A squad.

He also joined the National Bank of Pakistan team under captain Kamran Akmal. Amin traveled with the Pakistan A team during their tour of Australia.

Career

Amin made his One Day International debut against Sri Lanka during the opening match of the 2010 Asia Cup. He used a bat that once belonged to Sachin Tendulkar, which Shoaib Akhtar gave to him following a match winning innings for Rawalpindi. In his second match against India, he scored 5 runs. During the final match of that tournament, he scored 22 runs before a bizarre run-out occurred in the 22nd over. While Amin was walking toward the non-striker's end with his bat in the air, the bowler whipped off the bails. The third Umpire ruled him out after Shakib Al Hasan appealed for the run-out.

His Test debut occurred on 13 July 2010 at Lord's Cricket Ground in London against Australia. He scored 1 run in his first innings and 33 runs in his second innings as Pakistan lost the match by 150 runs. In his T20I debut, he contributed 47 runs from 34 balls to help Pakistan secure a victory. This score was the highest among his teammates during that specific game.

In October and November 2013, Amin served as the captain of Pakistan A during a tour of the United Arab Emirates. Former player Rashid Latif suggested that Amin could be groomed as an ODI team leader for the 2015 World Cup. However, his performance following a promotion before a home series against South Africa was limited to 52 runs across four innings. He scored 22 runs in three innings during T20I series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka before being dropped from the national squad. He later excelled in an ODI series against Zimbabwe where he recorded a fifty in his single appearance.

Domestic cricket saw various roles for Amin throughout his career. He captained the Sindh squad for the 2018 Pakistan Cup in April 2018. During the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he was the leading run-scorer for Sui Southern Gas Corporation with 728 runs in nine matches. He was named to the Sindh squad again in March 2019. In September 2019, he joined Northern's squad for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and he later joined them for the 2020–21 Pakistan Cup in January 2021.

Personal life

As of 2026, Amin is involved with cricket coaching at the London Cricket County Academy in the UK. He maintains a professional connection to the sport through this instructional role.
