Khaled Mahmud Sujon is a former Bangladeshi cricketer who currently serves as the head coach of Noakhali Express. He previously held the position of captain for both Test and One Day International teams.
Early life and education
Mahmud was born in Dhaka on 26 July 1971. While his specific educational background is not detailed, he emerged as an all-rounder within the domestic cricket circuit. He eventually transitioned from domestic play to the international stage.
Career
His international cricket career began in 1998 and continued until 2006. As a medium-pace bowler and middle-order batsman, he contributed significantly to the national side. He served as the captain of the team from 2003 to 2004.
During his domestic career, Mahmud achieved a notable List A century. He scored 145* against Bhahawalpur. During this match, he and Minhajul Abedin Nannu established the highest 5th wicket stand in List A cricket history with a score of 267*.
His international success focused largely on his bowling during One Day Internationals. In the 1999 World Cup, he helped defeat Pakistan by scoring 27 runs. He also took 3 wickets for 31 runs off 10 overs to earn the man of the match award. During the Third Test against Pakistan in Multan in 2003–04, he took 4 wickets for 37 runs and 3 wickets for 68 runs.
Speculation regarding his retirement surfaced in October 2005 according to BBC news. Although he denied these claims the following day, he officially retired from international cricket in 2006. He scored 36 runs in his final match. Mahmud remains the only Bangladeshi cricketer to retire at a stadium rather than using social media or a press conference.
Since retiring, he has maintained several roles with the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He worked as the operations manager for the National Cricket Academy before becoming an assistant coach to the national team in 2009. In 2013, he was elected as one of 25 BCB directors.
His administrative experience includes serving as a manager, selector, and technical director. He also acted as the team director during the 2023 World Cup.
Personal life
Mahmud faced a significant health challenge in July 2017. He suffered a stroke during this period. He was subsequently taken to Singapore to receive medical treatment.

He earned the man of the match award during the 1999 World Cup match against Pakistan. This performance included 3 wickets for 31 runs and 27 runs scored.
