Mohammad Wasim

Mohammad Wasim Wazir is a Pakistani international cricketer who represents the Pakistan national cricket team. He also plays for Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League.
Early life and education
Wasim was born on 25 August 2001, into a Pashtun family belonging to the Wazir tribe. His birthplace was North Waziristan, located within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Because there was a lack of facilities in his hometown, he moved to Peshawar to pursue his interests. He joined a cricket club in the provincial capital before progressing through district and regional levels.
He eventually earned a place on the Pakistan U19 team. Wasim was included in the Pakistan squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. This selection occurred because he replaced Naseem Shah, who could not participate after making an international debut.
Career
Wasim made his first-class debut on 26 November 2020, playing for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2020–21 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He entered the List A format shortly after when he debuted for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 18 January 2021, during the 2020–21 Pakistan Cup. His Twenty20 career began on 21 February 2021, when he played for Islamabad United in the 2021 Pakistan Super League. During Season 9 of the PSL, he played for Quetta Gladiators.
His international journey began in March 2021, when he joined Pakistan's limited overs squads for tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe. He was selected for the Twenty20 International squad against the West Indies in June 2021. Wasim made his T20I debut on 28 July 2021, against the West Indies, where he took the wicket of Chris Gayle.
The player was named to the One Day International squad for a series against New Zealand in September 2021. Later that same month, he joined the Pakistan squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He received another ODI call-up in December 2021 for a series against the West Indies. In February 2022, Wasim was added to the Test squad for the first match against Australia.
He made his ODI debut on 29 March 2022, playing against Australia. His Test debut arrived in December 2022, when he played against England in the third Test. After missing several games, he was recalled to the Test team for a 3-match series in Australia. In November 2025, he delivered a significant performance in the final ODI against Sri Lanka. He took 3/47 in 10 overs to help Pakistan achieve a 3-0 series whitewash.
As a right-arm fast bowler, Wasim utilizes a distinctive side-on, sling-type action. He is known for his ability to bowl in death overs through the use of reverse swing and deceptive yorkers. His height allows him to extract bounce, and his pace reaches the high 140s kph mark. In the field, he is recognized for sharp anticipation and agile ground-fielding.
Personal life
Wasim married on 26 June 2024. The couple held a private nikah ceremony at Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Awards and recognition
He was declared Player of the Match during the third ODI against Sri Lanka in November 2025. This award followed his disciplined bowling performance that restricted the opposition to 211 runs.
