Former Caretaker Interior Minister
Lt. Gen (R) Hamid Nawaz Khan, who has sworn in as caretaker Interior Minister and Narcotics Control enjoyed high-profile standing in strategic fields in the defence-related institutions.
He held a distinguished position as Chief of Staff in a Corps Headquarters and Instructor in Command and Staff College, Quetta as well as National Defence University, Islamabad.Khan did his graduation in commerce with honours from Punjab University and M.Sc (War Studies) from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. During his 34-year service in Pakistan army, the caretaker mnterior minister has also been conferred Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military). He commanded an Infantry Division at Quetta for three years and retired in year 2000 from General Headquarters where his last appointment was Vice Chief of the General Staff. Thereafter, he served in the Ministry of Defence as Secretary Defence for four years from 2001 to 2005.
He also served as ex-officio Chairman of Pakistan International airlines and its subsidiary organization PIA Investments, Chairman Civil aviation authority and Chairman Fauji Foundation. as Secretary Defence, he led a delegation to India in august 2004 for dialogue on Siachin issue and held frequent defence consultative group meetings and strategic dialogues with various countries; particularly the United States, UK and Turkey.
He achieved a major breakthrough in his career particularly in the post 9/11 scenario for the upgradation of the weapon system and the acquisition programmes and developing strategic understanding with the NATO countries.
Lt. He has remained Federal Minister for Interior in the caretaker government form November 2007 to April 2008.
